I found our apartment in Rome on Flipkey. This is Tripadvisors version of air-B&B or home stays. The only thing you have to go on are the reviews of others. I went with this apartment due to the number of positive reviews, the location is close to the metro station, the landlord did not ask for a cash deposit (extremely rare), it had 2 bathrooms, wifi, and the price was great.
Upon arrival the landlord was a little rushed. She took my money first, then showed me around the tiny apartment. It had a very musty smell, like a wine cave tour. Old and damp. It’s Rome and cool basement apartment so it was what it was. Being a basement apartment there weren’t any windows. So nothing ever dried. It was a place to sleep but nothing more. The kitchen had 1 knife! No bread knife, so cutting bread and tomatoes was a nightmare. Everyone did have their own bed and 2 bathrooms made showers easier.
I would recommend this apartment if you are looking for a safe, no frills, good location, inexpensive place to accommodate over 4 people.
