Ran-Tong save and rescue elephant center came and picked us up at 7:00 am for our half day program. We drove around for about 2 hours picking up the other 5 people and traveling to the camp. We then arrived at the camp and given bananas to feed any elephant we wanted to. We got to spend some time getting acquainted with the elephants. Then we were given our super stylish outfits to change into. Then we were assigned our elephants. I made the mistake of wanting to ride with Steve, so we were given the largest elephant there. His head was huge and we were up so high I thought I was going to fall for sure. Sierra was given her own teenage male elephant that she easily managed. Salome and Skyler then got a large female to ride. We were given some basic commands and off we went. A half day was more than plenty as I took a lot of leg muscles to hold onto this massive animal. Thankfully our elephant was afraid of water and decided to go off and eat instead of getting into the poop filled pool of water to take a bath. So we were on the elephant for 30 minutes longer than everyone else.
I don’t think the kids enjoyed the bathing part as well so it was a win for Steve and I. We then showered and changed, had a nice lunch watching the baby elephant play. Our guide answered a lot of questions and gave us a ton of information about the camp and elephants.
We then purchased a thumb drive of all our pictures, fed the elephants again, and tipped our guides. We then headed back to our hotel.
This was by far the best experience we have had in Thailand. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The kids were so happy they could burst! Truely a once in a lifetime experience.
