Loi Krathong

After arriving back home we discover my cousin and his English speaking girl friend are here from up north. She rented a traditional Thai dress to wear for her class today. We are then waiting for my cousin’s sister to arrive so that we can go to the Loi Krathong festival. Loi Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar.

We then take two cars down to the festival where it’s packed and crazy to find parking. After I pay to park at a temple we go in search of the rest of our family.

We all meet up and get some food. We then sit in the grass by the water eating and visiting. I then go and purchase 3 beautiful flower arrangements that we light up and make a wish on. We then send them floating into the water to the Gods for our wishes to come true.

Afterwards my cousin and his girlfriend need to go home. So we say our goodbyes. Then we walk around and have dessert while looking at all the vendors. We then watch the beauty pageant up on stage. The women are beautiful. Then we go and look at the large flower arrangements that were entered into the annual contest. They are stunning. As we are making the very long hike back to the car the fireworks began. We sit and watch them with my grandmother and aunt as my cousin goes to find her car. My cousin picks us up and drives us back to our bungalow to end a rather long eventful day.
